My name is Sylvia, founder of My Little Salon.
I initially studied applied arts, followed by fashion design. Fields where finding internships or employment can be challenging. I then started helping out in a hair salon, which marked the beginning of my career transition.
After around fifteen years working in salons, I became a freelance mobile hairdresser. That’s when I discovered not only the challenges of self-employment, but above all, a new sense of freedom. The ultimate break from routine.
How was the My Little Salon concept born?
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly changed our way of life for an extended period. Social distancing, restricted access to public spaces, and the rise of remote work reshaped our habits and priorities. Our homes took on a much more central role.
Another consequence: since 2020, we have seen a significant decline in foot traffic in physical stores, sometimes leading to closures. Consumers increasingly turned to online shopping for convenience, time-saving, and simplicity.
Since then, there has been a notable rise in home-based services across many sectors, from food delivery and grocery shopping to personal care and beauty services.
This unexpected boom created new needs for specialized equipment. Faced with a lack of suitable solutions, professionals often had to rely on improvised setups, non-ergonomic, impractical, and not built to last. These workarounds can make daily tasks more difficult and lead to unnecessary complications.
This is how the idea was born: to create equipment that is both easy to transport and truly practical. My Little Salon was designed to meet these new demands, with a strong focus on mobility as well as the comfort of both the professional and the client during in-home services.
